SYNOPSIS
Through Craigslist, an internationally active internet network, Elagoz arranges one-on-one first encounters with a wide variety of men in three cities and explores how the camera influences intimacy between two strangers: The documentarian and the subject. The setup is simple - she brings a camera, and films how they get to know each other. Every encounter is real and unscripted. She weaves her own presence in and out, and becomes part of the narrative. Instead of making a film she enters one. And shares something oddly real with them.
Director, concept, edit, camera: Samira Elagoz

“Samira Elagoz made a documentary that has never been seen before” -Nyt.fi
“Perhaps a perfect example of a female gaze.—- it's uncomfortable to watch. people make personal films about family issues but who really dares to make a film like this, to put something really at stake and play a game with that. ” -IDFA.nl
"the film itself is a masterpiece in improvisation" -superbalist.com
"It’s a very fresh film, different from the rest of the program - pushes the definition of documentary filmmaking" -Nordiskfilmogtvfond.com
"Accurate term for Elagoz’s movie would be “human gaze”. Craigslist Allstars deconstructs the male gaze without putting men under the “female gaze”. the camera is in conversation, the gaze shifts. -Hiff.fi
"IDFA-favorite, one of the most exciting films at the festival" -Parool.nl
"This is something new, something rare and independent." -blogit.kansanuutiset.fi
"Craigslist allstars is an exploration of intimacy between strangers, and all the different forms desire and human connection can take. — the power relationship between artist and subject, man and woman, seductor and seductee is turned on its head again and again, and because Elagoz refuses to editorialise, Craigslist Allstars becomes a confounding portrait of contemporary sexual mores, masculinity, femininity and everything in between. as much a litmus test on your views on these issues as it is a breathtaking film in its own right, craigslist allstars demands to be seen.” -Marijn Lems, Het Huis Utrech, 2016
